Tree-planting on the East Mendip Way
6 March @ 13:00 - 16:00Free
The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit – Nelson Henderson.
Would you like to help plant trees for a hedge on the outskirts of Frome – specifically on the path from Wallington Way to Vallis Veg? You can expect to get muddy, frustrated by barbed wire, dog-poo and stones, and potentially get wet or windblown – and you will have the satisfaction of contributing a new home for wildlife and a windbreak for walkers in the future.
This event is for anyone who can manage uneven ground and dig. Wear stout footwear and dress to protect yourself from the elements – whatever they may be. Bring gardening gloves if you have them, your thermos, and maybe some snacks to share. There is space for up to ten participants and advance booking is essential.
This event is being organised in partnership with Sustainable Frome and will be led by Alex Hart, co-founder of the Shared Earth Learning Cooperative, whose objective is to nurture a love of nature in local folk. Alex says: “we will begin at 1pm and continue until we’ve had enough, at the latest by 4pm.”
To find the site: From Wallington Way BA11 3EJ walk across the fields along the East Mendip Way footpath. This is where we are planting. Go through the metal gate / kissing gate heading towards Vallis Vale, but turn immediately right and follow path through trees and past the allotments. You’ll most likely find us near the Poly-tunnel.
This event falls within the practicing kindness theme in the festival.
